Thomas Jefferson may be dead for more than 70 years but the
artist that created the illustration may not be. Since the
book was copyrighted in 1992, the book and all of its contents are still
protected by copyright laws.
LaShandra must contact the publisher and secure rights for using the

student could draw a picture of Thomas Jefferson. To be in
compliance, she should have that student sign a contract issuing the
school permission
to place the drawing on its web site.
